The Balvenie Distillery is a renowned Speyside single malt Scotch whisky distillery located in Dufftown, Scotland. Founded in 1892 by William Grant, it remains family-owned by William Grant & Sons and is famous for being the only distillery in Scotland that still practices the “Five Rare Crafts” entirely on-site.
Home-Grown Barley: They grow a portion of their own barley on the 1,000-acre Balvenie Mains farm.
Traditional Floor Maltings: It is one of only a handful of distilleries in Scotland still using a traditional malting floor, where barley is turned by hand.
On-site Copper Smith: A resident coppersmith maintains the unique “Balvenie Ball” shaped stills.
On-site Cooperage: A dedicated team of coopers repairs and rebuilds the whisky casks.
Malt Master Expertise: Former Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE pioneered “cask finishing” (transferring whisky between different barrel types) in the 1980s, a process now standard across the industry. Kelsey McKechnie currently serves as Malt Master.
