In 2015 the Caffo Distillery celebrated 100 years of business and wished to produce a very special gift for all those who love its liqueurs and spirits.
This momentous release is produced by the Fratelli Caffo Distillery in Limbadi, Italy, from brandy aged between 30 and 50 years (age varies batch to batch) in Slovenian oak barrels and blended with 29 Calabrian herbs, spices, roots, fruits, and flowers. The brandy is distilled from grapes sourced in Southern Italy—primarily Primitivo, Gaglioppo, Greco, Nero d’Avola, Nerello Mascalese, Sangiovese, and Aglianico. Botanicals include both sweet and bitter oranges, tangerines, chamomile, juniper, licorice, anise, mint, and hyssop. All botanicals are harvested at peak ripeness and maturity, then immediately macerated to capture the truest expression of each ingredient. The final blend is rested for 6 months in ex-brandy oak barrels before bottling.
The nose displays aromas of honeysuckle, Mandarin orange, light clove, and banana on the nose. The palate is spiced and fruity, with strawberry jam, gentian, bitter orange, cinnamon, and milk chocolate. A medley of baking spices, most notably licorice and clove, lingers long on the finish. Released in numbered, limited quantities, this celebratory expression reveals a fruitier, softer side to Caffo’s classic amaro. Rich and decadent without cloying sweetness, enjoy neat or lightly chilled as a refined digestivo. 37.5% ABV.
