Hunky Dory Sauvignon Blanc is a highly regarded, organically grown white wine produced in the Marlborough region of New Zealand. Crafted by Mike and Claire Allan—the talented team behind Huia Vineyards.
The wine delivers the textbook vibrant energy expected from premium Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, styled with minimal intervention and fermented with native yeasts:
- Nose: A beautifully aromatic bouquet showing stone fruit, passionfruit, white peach, kaffir lime leaf, fresh grass, and subtle dried green herbs.
- Palate: Bright, juicy, and racy. Layers of white grapefruit, gooseberry, green melon, and guava are anchored by a distinct chalky texture, crisp acidity, and a subtle saline, mineral finish.
- Winemaking: Completely unoaked and crafted entirely in stainless steel to preserve the pristine, crunchy fruit character. It is certified organic, low-sulfur, and vegan-friendly.

Huia Vineyards (pronounced “HOO-yah”) is one of Marlborough’s few producers dedicated to making minimal intervention, organically farmed wines. The name “Huia” is a nod to the now-extinct Huia bird, sacred in Māori culture, a symbol of honor, partnership, and respect. The significance of the Huia bird extends to winemaking at this pioneering estate, which crafts wines with integrity and deep respect for the land. This commitment to caring for their vineyards and thoughtful winemaking began with founders Mike and Claire Allan, who planted in 1994 and released their first vintage in 1996. Today, Huia farms 20 hectares biodynamically, planted to Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Riesling, and Pinot Gris, with sheep and chickens happily roaming between the vines. The wines are now carefully made by Josh Lee, who previously worked at Greywacke, Dog Point, and the pioneering English sparkling house Nyetimber.
