Ocnautic’s winemaker Jose Ramirez is constantly searching far and wide for superior winemaking and viticulturally techniques, with the aim to draw complexity and rich flavors from our cool climate grapes. If anyone is up to this task, it’s José, a first-generation Californian. While his initial plans were to study medicine, he found his true calling when he took on a college internship harvesting wine grapes.
He’s learned his trade from the soil up and remains engaged in all aspects of winemaking from the vineyards to the cellar. He continues to cement his mastery with advanced studies through the Wine and Spirits Education Trust. Away from the cellar, he likes to test his endurance with hikes along the rugged Monterey Coast or embark on adventures to wine destinations around the world.
