CIn 1882, Michael and Malka Hamilecki first set foot on the land of Zichron Yaakov, after immigrating from Lithuania. Michael was chosen by Baron Rothschild to plant vineyards in the area, and from that day on, the harmony and deep connection between the family and the land and the vineyard began. The family settled in nearby Shefiya, which is now surrounded by extensive vineyards, and began the work of cultivating the land and growing the vineyards. In 1925, the family hosted the poet Haim Nachman Bialik. In gratitude for the warm hospitality, the poet offered them the name “Tishbi” – a resident of Shefiya in the Land of Israel.
Today, all family members work at the winery. My wife, Nili, manages the winery shop and the visitors’ center. Golan Benny is the winemaker and VP of the winery. Golan grew up with the winery and the winery grew because of him. When we decided to establish a distillery there, he traveled to Cognac in France, learned the “alembic” distillation method and applied it to making brandy aged in oak barrels. Thanks to the brandy, we won great respect in Israel and abroad and the title of the best brandy in the world at the “IWSC” competition held in London. Oshra, my daughter traveled the world and opened the world market for the winery, founded our cafe and wine shop in the center of Zichron Yaakov and the gourmet product series “Fine Food by OshraTishbi”.
